The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Jailson de Carvalho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 3rd minute. Valdo Catarinense tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Paulo Renato Souza came up free with the goalie in the 4th minute, the Nova Iguaçu MZFC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Paulo Renato Souza couldn't finish the play. Mateus Salgado charged in rather forcefully in the 6th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Mateus Salgado the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 6th match minute, SORRISO E. C. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mateus Salgado to maneuver through the defense. In the 7th minute Jailson de Carvalho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Valdo Catarinense saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Jailson de Carvalho in the 19th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Valdo Catarinense saved SORRISO E. C. from getting behind. The supporters of Nova Iguaçu MZFC booed when SORRISO E. C. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Horácio Pereira didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 24th minute Jailson de Carvalho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Valdo Catarinense saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Valdo Catarinense showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jailson de Carvalho in the 32nd minute of the match. A collision led to SORRISO E. C. getting a freekick after 37 minutes play. Mateus Salgado hit a great ball. Paulo Renato Souza had several of the SORRISO E. C.'s defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 40 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 1-0 score and a disappointed Valdo Catarinense as he didn't even see the shot coming.

The wind increased when Jailson de Carvalho made the kick off in the second half. 57 minutes into the match, Jailson de Carvalho had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Valdo Catarinense. SORRISO E. C.'s manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Jailson de Carvalho was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-0. Dalmo Rocha's late challenge caught a SORRISO E. C.'s player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Dalmo Rocha helped the player get up and apologised. After 61 played minutes Nova Iguaçu MZFC got a freekick which was hit by Dalmo Rocha. In the 63rd minute, Juvenal Novaes hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 64th minute of the match Vítor Sousa shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Mauro de Salles showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. 70 minutes in the game, the ball went up into the seats when SORRISO E. C.'s Reinaldo Marquez fired away a shot that was just a little bit too high. He walked away shaking his head. SORRISO E. C.'s Cláudio Couto got a good chance for a goal in the 73rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Paulo Renato Souza had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 82nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 91st minute, Horácio Pereira managed to get in a good position for a shot. SORRISO E. C.'s supporters rose to their feet, but Horácio Pereira was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Mauro de Salles breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jailson de Carvalho in the 94th minute of play forced SORRISO E. C.'s goalkeeper Valdo Catarinense to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
