Tomé Mota showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Nelsinho Marinho in the 19th minute of the match. When Ernesto Velloso fell near the penalty area in the 20th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Agua Santa's protests and gave Ernesto Velloso a yellow card for diving instead. After 43 minutes of play, Palestra do Interior's Nelsinho Marinho made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. But to his dismay, Nelsinho Marinho quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-3. After the first half Palestra do Interior were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The wind increased when Nelsinho Marinho made the kick off in the second half. With a little luck, Agua Santa's Tomé Mota got control of the ball when Nelsinho Marinho tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 62nd minute, Ronaldo Pirani reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Tomé Mota. The goal made the score 0-5.
