Marco Valadares started the match with the kick off. In the 2nd match minute, SE Palmeiras was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by João Vítor de Almeida to maneuver through the defense. 4 minutes into the game, Abelardo Medeiros was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. SE Palmeiras's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave E.C 2 Janeiro RS the free kick. E.C 2 Janeiro RS's Carlinhos da Costa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by João Vítor de Almeida in the 12th minute of play. In the 25th minute, João Vítor de Almeida got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Carlinhos da Costa showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Oswaldo Godoi in the 26th minute of the match. After 30 minutes, Fellipe Rezende mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the E.C 2 Janeiro RS and the SE Palmeiras players grew even worse after the yellow card. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Oswaldo Godoi made a kick off. SE Palmeiras's Christiano Baiano got a good chance for a goal in the 51st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 53rd minute, Oswaldo Godoi fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. When Marco Valadares fell near the penalty area in the 54th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored E.C 2 Janeiro RS's protests and gave Marco Valadares a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of SE Palmeiras booed when E.C 2 Janeiro RS was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 54 match minutes in a wonderful position. Marco Valadares didn't get a good kick on the ball. Carlinhos da Costa didn't succeed to prevent the ball from going into goal when SE Palmeiras's Christiano Baiano shot an unexpected shot in the crossbar's under edge and made 0-2 in the ordered_time% minute. After 87 played minutes E.C 2 Janeiro RS got a freekick which was hit by Paulo Pontes. Christiano Baiano fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 93rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Carlinhos da Costa having to interfere. In the 95th minute, Basílio Ortiz hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Abelardo Medeiros was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 96th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. When the final whistle sounded SE Palmeiras left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than E.C 2 Janeiro RS.
