Zé Augusto Peixoto took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Válter de Sousa, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 22nd minute, Hélder Trigo got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Márcio Medeiros received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 23rd minute. Carlinhos da Costa tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 27 minutes into the game, Hélder Trigo recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Carlinhos da Costa. Hélder Trigo showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 2-0. The supporters of Vascogoianiense FC booed when E.C 2 Janeiro RS was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 29 match minutes in a wonderful position. Válter de Sousa didn't get a good kick on the ball. Zé Augusto Peixoto made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Marco Valadares in the 31st minute of play. Ademar Montenegro hit a great freekick 32 minutes into the match. Fellipe Rezende's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Zé Augusto Peixoto read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 33rd minute of play. Anderson Valladares kicked well hit freekick during the 36th minute of the match. A collision led to Vascogoianiense FC getting a freekick after 42 minutes play. Márcio Medeiros hit a great ball. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Hélder Trigo made a kick off. Zé Augusto Peixoto took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Paulo Pontes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Marco Valadares in the 57th minute of play forced Vascogoianiense FC's goalkeeper Zé Augusto Peixoto to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, Vascogoianiense FC's Válter Martins got a free kick in the 58th minute. With a little luck, Vascogoianiense FC's Zé Augusto Peixoto got control of the ball when Marco Valadares tried to sneak it across the goal line. After 66 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Vascogoianiense FC! Fellipe Rezende made in the 69th minute of the game a quick throw-in and Haroldo Sanches immediately put the ball in play. Válter de Sousa recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 71st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Válter Martins got his second yellow card in the match during the 74th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. After 74 played minutes Vascogoianiense FC got a freekick which was hit by Válter Martins. Marco Valadares came free with the goalkeeper in the 85th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Zé Augusto Peixoto could save by the left post. Carlinhos da Costa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hélder Trigo, who was totally free with the ball in the 91st minute. In the 94th minute, Válter de Sousa fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Zé Augusto Peixoto, passed just outside the right post. The Vascogoianiense FC players were eager to celebrate when the final whistle sounded. They had somehow managed to win, even though the away team had held the majority of the possession.
