Oscar Saldanha tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 11th minute Paulinho Paraibano shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Amadeu Prado saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Oscar Saldanha showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Pedro Augusto Marquez, who was totally free with the ball in the 36th minute. Nelson Vidal kicked well hit freekick during the 39th minute of the match. In the 44th minute, Nelson Vidal hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Sérgio Batista fell near the penalty area in the 47th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Squadra Demarchi's protests and gave Sérgio Batista a yellow card for diving instead. The audience held their breath when Alexsandro Lira in the 50th minute of the game managed to trick the opponents defenses and fired away a shot outside the goal on the Oscar Saldanha's left hand side. After the first half Squadra Demarchi were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.
