Lenny Vorster took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ceferino Monte, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After taking down the ball on Patay Juniors's corner Prospero Petri fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Lenny Vorster quite easily take care of the ball. Suat Kaya's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Cayetano Francho read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 26th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Patay Juniors's zone, Suat Kaya stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Cayetano Francho came out of the goal and Suat Kaya tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Genk's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Thomas-Jan Van de Weijer in the 31st minute. A nice corner shot did that Thomas-Jan Van de Weijer got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Cayetano Francho quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. After 33 minutes of play, Genk's Suat Kaya made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Cayetano Francho was left in no man's land by his defense there! 40 minutes into the match, Genk's goal looked a bit too open when Cedric Ceballos came free, but Lenny Vorster reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of Genk booed when Patay Juniors was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 43 match minutes in a wonderful position. Leandro Astigar didn't get a good kick on the ball. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Patay Juniors's Cayetano Francho played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Suat Kaya in the 50th minute of play. In the 57th minute Ceferino Monte shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lenny Vorster saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Suat Kaya took the ball and in the 67 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Cayetano Francho. Cayetano Francho dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-2. Lenny Vorster showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Leo Chesus in the 70th minute of the match. In the 70th minute, Leo Chesus left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Patay Juniors fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-3. After some fancy dribbling in the 72nd minute, Suat Kaya managed to get in a good position for a shot. Genk's supporters rose to their feet, but Suat Kaya was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Cayetano Francho breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. With an all-out effort, Patay Juniors's Lenny Vorster threw himself towards the right post 74 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Ceferino Monte, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. 75 minutes into the match, Vergil Rupov had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Cayetano Francho. Patay Juniors's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Vergil Rupov was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-3.
