MVV Maastricht's supporters crossed their fingers, but Maurits Ruben was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a rather tough play, Honduras's Milagros Cabal got a free kick in the 26th minute. Dean Verbruggen showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Edmundo Espiga, who was totally free with the ball in the 31st minute. MVV Maastricht's Dean Verbruggen played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Christian Sancho in the 48th minute of play. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Edmundo Espiga to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 53rdth minute of the game Edmundo Espiga who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but MVV Maastricht's Dean Verbruggen was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Thanks to some nice moves Milagros Cabal could shoot a difficult shot in the 56th minute, which Dean Verbruggen however easily saved by the left post. Hans Roelofsen kicked well hit freekick during the 59th minute of the match. Esteban Carvallo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 90th minute. Dean Verbruggen tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 96th minute Edmundo Espiga shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dean Verbruggen saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When the referee blew the final whistle, MVV Maastricht could leave the field as winners, despite Honduras having more of the ball for most of the match.
