Uruguay's supporters rose to their feet, but Francisco Seco was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Francisco Secos short, quick shot in the 55thth minute got Vassilis Chatzipetrou to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. In the 57th match minute, Uruguay was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jaime Cazalla to maneuver through the defense. Joaquin Gayoso took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Themos Serifis, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Vassilis Chatzipetrou tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The audience was convinced that Lazaros Zoumakis's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Joaquin Gayoso was relentless in the 90th minute of the game.
