But to his dismay, Erivaldo do Valle quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. In the 19th minute Raphael de Queirós shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pompiliu Hâncu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. João Vítor Seco stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Nicu Zberea's shot from short distance in the 23rd minute. After some careless play in the Republica Ploiești defense, Aírton de Alcântara kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Pompiliu Hâncu. The Republica Ploiești fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Pompiliu Hâncu should have stopped the shot. In the 31st minute the ball was on its way in behind São Wilson's goalkeeper João Vítor Seco, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 33 minutes into the match, Republica Ploiești's goalkeeper Pompiliu Hâncu had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Aírton de Alcântara. Republica Ploiești's Nicu Zberea got a good chance for a goal in the 46th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Nicu Zberea kicked well hit freekick during the 47th minute of the match.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Nicu Zberea to make the kick off. The goalkeeper, João Vítor Seco, was totally fooled by Republica Ploiești's George Ivăncioiu, who 53 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. Pompiliu Hâncu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Aírton de Alcântara in the 56th minute of play. In the 95th minute, Nicu Zberea got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal.
