In the 24th minute, Zé Pedro Mendes left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. Goblins F.C.'s supporters rose to their feet, but Waldemar Ramos was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Antônio Carlos Cavalcante breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After the first half Goblins F.C. were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Nelsinho Marinho was the one to do the kick off. Palestra do Interior's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
