After 16 played minutes, Palestra do Interior's Nelsinho Marinho shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Winford Taylor came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Palestra do Interior reached it. 19 minutes into the match, Tobias Herrington notched a goal, 2-1, to the right of Palestra do Interior's Antônio Carlos Cavalcante. Antônio Carlos Cavalcante was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Nelsinho Marinho took the ball and in the 44 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Winford Taylor. Winford Taylor dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 4-1.

After 54 played minutes New England Minas got a freekick which was hit by Hans Morrow. In the 55th minute of the match Delfim Quintal shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Winford Taylor showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Nelsinho Marinho in the 61st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Winford Taylor saved New England Minas from getting behind. Winford Taylor showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Delfim Quintal in the 62nd minute of the match. 64 minutes into the game, Waylon McQueen was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. New England Minas's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Palestra do Interior the free kick. In the 64th match minute, New England Minas was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Waylon McQueen to maneuver through the defense. In the 66th minute, Waylon McQueen hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 73rd minute of the game. One of New England Minas:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Palestra do Interior:s goal. In the 77th minute Nelsinho Marinho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Winford Taylor saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 78th minute of the match Palestra do Interior got a corner. New England Minas's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Nelsinho Marinho ran over to the corner to take the kick. Nelson Xavier was in a good position and managed to take a shot, but he missed just to the outside of the post. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Delfim Quintal in the 85th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Winford Taylor saved New England Minas from getting behind. 88 minutes into the match, New England Minas's goal looked a bit too open when Nelsinho Marinho came free, but Winford Taylor reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Palestra do Interior fans cheered their team off the field, for while New England Minas had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
