In the 7th minute Tobias Herrington shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Arnaldo de Carvalho saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Vivaldo Munhoz received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Winford Taylor came out and tried to block the shot, but Vivaldo Munhoz slotted it home off the left post making it 1-0 in the 8th minute. Arnaldo de Carvalho came out of the goal in the 13th minute to try and stop a shot by New England Minas's Tod Mosley. But to his dismay, Tod Mosley quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. After having played for 15 minutes, Hans Morrow managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. New England Minas's supporters crossed their fingers, but Hans Morrow was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The supporters of Goblins F.C. booed when New England Minas was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 16 match minutes in a wonderful position. Waylon McQueen didn't get a good kick on the ball. 20 minutes into the match, Goblins F.C.'s goal looked a bit too open when Tobias Herrington came free, but Arnaldo de Carvalho reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 21 minutes, Eduardo Machado mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Goblins F.C. and the New England Minas players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Goblins F.C.'s Eduardo Machado got a free kick in the 21st minute. Pere Ba took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 22nd minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Arnaldo de Carvalho. Goblins F.C.'s goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Marquinhos de Andrade kicked well hit freekick during the 25th minute of the match. Goblins F.C.'s Arnaldo de Carvalho played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tod Mosley in the 27th minute of play. In the 28th minute New England Minas were awarded a corner. Pere Ba went to the cornerflag to take it. In the 30th minute, Tobias Herrington got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After 35 played minutes New England Minas got a freekick which was hit by Mario Hayes. Waldemar Ramos recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 35th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Waldemar Ramos sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Winford Taylor made an important save on a dangerous shot by Zé Pedro Mendes in the 41st minute. A collision led to New England Minas getting a freekick after 42 minutes play. Dwayne Clement hit a great ball. Winford Taylor made a fantastic save in the 43rd minute, when Vivaldo Munhoz sent off a good shot on target. New England Minas's Winford Taylor proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 45th minute of the match, managed to save New England Minas from getting a goal against them. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Vivaldo Munhoz was the one to do the kick off. 51 minutes into the match, Zé Pedro Mendes had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Winford Taylor. New England Minas's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Zé Pedro Mendes was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-1. Winford Taylor made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Zé Pedro Mendes in the 56th minute of play. In the 62nd minute of the match, Tod Mosley tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Arnaldo de Carvalho saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. In the 63rd minute, Kaba Sø hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Arnaldo de Carvalho showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tod Mosley, who was totally free with the ball in the 67th minute. Waldemar Ramos charged in rather forcefully in the 68th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Waldemar Ramos the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play.
