The Konurbano Atletico fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Teobaldo Demario should have stopped the shot. When the match had gone on for 23 minutes, Venancio Emesto took a quick shot and it went in 2-0 without a chance for Teobaldo Demario to make any attempt to save it. Matias Bilintx's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Teobaldo Demario read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 26th minute of play. After 29 minutes Konurbano Atletico's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Saturnino Curcio who took care of the corner kick. A nice corner shot did that Diego Maradona got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Teobaldo Demario quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. In the 34thth minute of the game Cristian Ronaldo who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Sporting de Gijón's Óscar Cordoba was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Diego Maradona recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 47th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Cristian Ronaldo stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Prospero Perutxo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 59th minute. Óscar Cordoba tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Sporting de Gijón made a substitution. Konurbano Atletico's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Matias Bilintx was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-0.
