Wawrzyniec Charamut was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. 28 minutes into the match, Sporting de Gijón's goal looked a bit too open when Paul Gheară came free, but Óscar Cordoba reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Diego Maradona struck a weak shot in the 29th minute. Wawrzyniec Charamut didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Sporting de Gijón. After a rather tough play, Sporting de Gijón's Niceto Dominix got a free kick in the 31st minute. Óscar Cordoba showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Norbert Chwalkiewicz, who was totally free with the ball in the 34th minute. After 37 minutes, Matias Bilintx made it 3-1 with a short kick to the right side. De Boedo Vengo's Wawrzyniec Charamut tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. If Paul Gheară had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 40th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Diego Maradona received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 43rd minute. Wawrzyniec Charamut tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

51 minutes into the match, De Boedo Vengo's Felix Asier sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Óscar Cordoba narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Alejandro Rufo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 53rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 61 played minutes, Sporting de Gijón's Saturnino Curcio shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Wawrzyniec Charamut came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Sporting de Gijón reached it. The audience thought a goal was coming when Norbert Chwalkiewicz got free with Óscar Cordoba in the 63rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Wawrzyniec Charamut showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Matias Bilintx, who was totally free with the ball in the 64th minute. De Boedo Vengo's Wawrzyniec Charamut played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Matias Bilintx in the 66th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 67th minute, Diego Maradona managed to get in a good position for a shot. Sporting de Gijón's supporters rose to their feet, but Diego Maradona was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Wawrzyniec Charamut breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Sporting de Gijón's Mario Zanabria was substituted for Saturnino Curcio. In the 72nd minute Paul Gheară shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Óscar Cordoba saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 75 minutes into the game, Abelardo Felipo was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. De Boedo Vengo's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Sporting de Gijón the free kick. Sporting de Gijón's Óscar Cordoba played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lisandro Roderigo in the 81st minute of play. After a rather tough play, De Boedo Vengo's Paul Gheară got a free kick in the 84th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Matias Bilintx in the 87th minute of play forced De Boedo Vengo's goalkeeper Wawrzyniec Charamut to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 89th minute of the match Sporting de Gijón got a corner. De Boedo Vengo's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Gabriel Diaz ran over to the corner to take the kick. Wawrzyniec Charamut didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Rune Fanström went, in the 91st minute, to the upper right corner, 4-1 was the resulting score. Norbert Chwalkiewicz received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 94th minute. Óscar Cordoba tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Wawrzyniec Charamut made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Matias Bilintx in the 95th minute of play. For all the effort they put into the match, the De Boedo Vengo players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Sporting de Gijón.
