In the 17th minute Diego Maradona shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Domingo Bulnes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some careless play in the Sporting de Gijón defense, Adriano van Beek kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Óscar Cordoba. The Sporting de Gijón fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Óscar Cordoba should have stopped the shot. When Adriano van Beek came up free with the goalie in the 24th minute, the ✪ XV de Umarizal fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Adriano van Beek couldn't finish the play. Domingo Bulnes took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Matias Bilintx, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Thanks to some nice moves Alejandro Rufo could shoot a difficult shot in the 54th minute, which Domingo Bulnes however easily saved by the left post. Domingo Bulnes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Diego Maradona, who was totally free with the ball in the 58th minute. The supporters of Sporting de Gijón booed when ✪ XV de Umarizal was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 63 match minutes in a wonderful position.
