Claes Jönsson was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After a rather tough play, SE Palmeiras's Christiano Baiano got a free kick in the 20th minute. Claes Jönsson didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Abelardo Medeiros went, in the 22nd minute, to the upper right corner, 4-0 was the resulting score. Christiano Baiano fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 27th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Claes Jönsson having to interfere. Claes Jönsson showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Abelardo Medeiros in the 29th minute of the match. When Roberto Andrade came up free with the goalie in the 32nd minute, the SE Palmeiras fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Roberto Andrade couldn't finish the play. Gunnar Nordahl's late challenge caught a SE Palmeiras's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. They had fought hard, but were still losing 4-0.
