Flamengo's August Hjortberg played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jerry Williams in the 8th minute of play. In the 10th minute, Kasper Bivall made a precise shot to the right of Ronnie Hellström. Skövde AIK's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-1. When Edwardt Balmett came up free with the goalie in the 13th minute, the Flamengo fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Edwardt Balmett couldn't finish the play. The referee gave Flamengo a penalty, 16 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Henrik Kilström, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Skövde AIK's Ronnie Hellström. 1-2. Chen Ao Fan came free with the goalkeeper in the 20th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and August Hjortberg could save by the left post. With a little luck, Flamengo's August Hjortberg got control of the ball when Chen Ao Fan tried to sneak it across the goal line. 22 minutes into the game, Chen Ao Fan cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-2. August Hjortberg was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Ronnie Hellström stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Kasper Bivall's shot from short distance in the 25th minute. After having played for 26 minutes, Kasper Bivall managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Flamengo's supporters crossed their fingers, but Kasper Bivall was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Arturo Espiridion hit a great freekick 28 minutes into the match. After some careless play in the Skövde AIK defense, Kasper Bivall kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Ronnie Hellström. The Skövde AIK fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Ronnie Hellström should have stopped the shot. Arturo Espiridion fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ronnie Hellström having to interfere. Kasper Bivall scored 2-4 in the 40th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Ronnie Hellström, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. If Kevin Keegan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 44 played minutes Flamengo got a freekick which was hit by Arturo Espiridion. After the first half Flamengo were leading 2-4. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The wind increased when Kasper Bivall made the kick off in the second half. Kasper Bivall sent away a hard shot on goal in the 51st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. Ronnie Hellström took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Kasper Bivall, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 72nd minute, Flamengo's Kasper Bivall ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Ronnie Hellström. Ronnie Hellström yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-5. August Hjortberg showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Kurt Hamrin, who was totally free with the ball in the 75th minute. 77 minutes into the match, Skövde AIK's goalkeeper Ronnie Hellström had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Kasper Bivall. A sloppy throw-in by Knut Rudberg in the 80th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Flamengo's Sal Mone. Kasper Bivall took the ball and in the 81 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Ronnie Hellström. Ronnie Hellström dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-6. 88 minutes into the game, Kasper Bivall cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-7. Ronnie Hellström was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Knut Rudberg kicked well hit freekick during the 96th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Kasper Bivall in the 96th minute of play forced Skövde AIK's goalkeeper Ronnie Hellström to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The Flamengo supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Flamengo would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
