The referee ignored Squadra Demarchi's protests and gave Alexsandro Britto a yellow card for diving instead. Alexsandro Britto kicked well hit freekick during the 3rd minute of the match. In the 9th match minute, Squadra Demarchi was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Kléber Queirós to maneuver through the defense. After 10 played minutes Squadra Demarchi got a freekick which was hit by Richard Moura. In the 11th minute, Lucio Soin sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Squadra Demarchi's Oscar Saldanha didn't even have to move. In the 27thth minute of the game Alexsandro Britto who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Kaplan's René Higuita was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After 33 minutes of play, Squadra Demarchi's Alexsandro Britto made it 1-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. René Higuita was left in no man's land by his defense there! René Higuita took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Kléber Queirós, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 45th minute of the match, Kléber Queirós got a very nice opportunity to score, but René Higuita was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. After 47 played minutes Kaplan got a freekick which was hit by Aristides Avellaneda. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Alexsandro Britto was the one to do the kick off. After 51 minutes, Nunez Urtzi mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Kaplan and the Squadra Demarchi players grew even worse after the yellow card. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 83 minutes into the game, Squadra Demarchi's Kléber Queirós nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. René Higuita made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-0. René Higuita showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alexsandro Britto, who was totally free with the ball in the 86th minute. Ciro Castro's late challenge caught a Kaplan's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card.
