Juhana Malmivaara's late challenge caught a Kaplan's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Juhana Malmivaara helped the player get up and apologised. Juhana Malmivaara hit a great freekick 3 minutes into the match. With 7 minutes on the clock, Amador Bela commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. 6 minutes into the game, one of Kaplan:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. If Abelardo Ledesma had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 14th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Unto Jokinen showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Abelardo Ledesma in the 18th minute of the match. 20 minutes into the match, Kaplan's goal looked a bit too open when Juha-Pekka Nurminen came free, but René Higuita reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ville Kaukomaa's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but René Higuita firmly grabbed it by the left post. After some fancy dribbling in the 22nd minute, Juhana Malmivaara managed to get in a good position for a shot. FC Jones's supporters rose to their feet, but Juhana Malmivaara was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. René Higuita breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 25 minutes into the match, Kaplan's goal looked a bit too open when Juhana Malmivaara came free, but René Higuita reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. FC Jones's Unto Jokinen played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Abelardo Ledesma in the 29th minute of play. Juha-Pekka Nurminen fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without René Higuita having to interfere. FC Jones were furious when Santtu Virta was red carded, 40 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. 44 minutes into the match, FC Jones's goal looked a bit too open when Lucio Soin came free, but Unto Jokinen reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a rather tough play, FC Jones's Ilari Hassinen got a free kick in the 45th minute. Aristides Avellaneda's late challenge caught a FC Jones's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Aristides Avellaneda helped the player get up and apologised. Aristides Avellaneda kicked well hit freekick during the 47th minute of the match. In the 48th minute Juha-Pekka Nurminen shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but René Higuita saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

The supporters of Kaplan booed when FC Jones was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 60 match minutes in a wonderful position. Juha-Pekka Nurminen didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Abelardo Ledesma had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 61st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Abelardo Ledesma charged in rather forcefully in the 64th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Abelardo Ledesma the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 71st match minute, FC Jones was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Manne Vapaniemi to maneuver through the defense. After having played for 73 minutes, Ville Kaukomaa managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. FC Jones's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ville Kaukomaa was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lucio Soin in the 75th minute of play forced FC Jones's goalkeeper Unto Jokinen to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. René Higuita stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Ville Kaukomaa's shot from short distance in the 78th minute. If Abelardo Ledesma had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 81st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Juha-Pekka Nurminen received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 87th minute. René Higuita tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. René Higuita took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Juha-Pekka Nurminen, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Both teams had looked equal from kick-off, and no-one was surprised when the match finally ended in a draw.
