When Jan Gulliksson fell near the penalty area in the 16th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Oldham Athletic's protests and gave Jan Gulliksson a yellow card for diving instead. After 17 played minutes Oldham Athletic got a freekick which was hit by Jan Gulliksson. The long shot by Paulinho Paraibano in the 17th minute really tested Sonny Bergdal's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. Claudinho Pinho scored 1-0 in the 19th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Sonny Bergdal, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Oscar Saldanha came out of the goal in the 23rd minute to try and stop a shot by Oldham Athletic's Sören Petersson. But to his dismay, Sören Petersson quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. 29 minutes in the game, Claudinho Pinho fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Sonny Bergdal having to interfere. Sonny Bergdal made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Claudinho Pinho in the 31st minute of play. Sonny Bergdal made a fantastic save in the 33rd minute, when Kléber Queirós sent off a good shot on target. Sonny Bergdal took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Claudinho Pinho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Sonny Bergdal was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Claudinho Pinho showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 2-1 in the 36 minute of play. Sérgio Batista lost his temper 39 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. In the 39th match minute, Squadra Demarchi was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sérgio Batista to maneuver through the defense. The crowd rose to their feet as Ingvar Bollström kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Oscar Saldanha. That made the score 3-2 in the 81 minute of play.
