The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 12 minutes into the match, Arnold Ponk notched a goal, 2-0, to the right of Ecuador's Julio Vera. Julio Vera was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the last second Julio Vera throw himself and got hold of the ball when Edmílson Martins in the 15thth minute from his position got away a shot towards the right post. Pastor Firman stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Cristian Sancho's shot from short distance in the 24th minute. Pastor Firman showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Daniel Zorita in the 26th minute of the match. In the 26th minute, Daniel Zorita made a precise shot to the right of Pastor Firman. Club Sportivo Quilmes's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-1. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Edmílson Martins in the 29th minute of play. Ecuador's Julio Vera proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 31st minute of the match, managed to save Ecuador from getting a goal against them. In the 34th minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pastor Firman saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Edmílson Martins, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Club Sportivo Quilmes's Edmílson Martins got a good chance for a goal in the 38th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 41st minute of the match, Qu Xuan Yang got a very nice opportunity to score, but Julio Vera was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 3-1 at half-time.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Edmílson Martins stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. With a little luck, Club Sportivo Quilmes's Pastor Firman got control of the ball when Daniel Zorita tried to sneak it across the goal line. Club Sportivo Quilmes were awarded a corner in the 72th minute after Ecuador's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Waldemar Przybylo took the corner. 74 minutes into the match, Club Sportivo Quilmes's goalkeeper Pastor Firman had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Daniel Zorita. Cristian Sancho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 76th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Pastor Firman having to interfere. In the 81st minute Radomil Mietus shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Daniel Zorita struck a weak shot in the 82nd minute. Pastor Firman didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. With an all-out effort, Ecuador's Pastor Firman threw himself towards the right post 93 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Cristian Sancho, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. After some fancy dribbling in the 95th minute, Cristian Sancho managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ecuador's supporters rose to their feet, but Cristian Sancho was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Pastor Firman breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. When the referee blew the final whistle, Club Sportivo Quilmes could leave the field as winners, despite Ecuador having more of the ball for most of the match.
