When the match had gone on for 6 minutes, Corneliu Dridu took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Julio Vera to make any attempt to save it. In a very dangerous position, a player in Ecuador fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 13th minute. Penalty! Julio Vera had in the 15thth minute some difficulties stopping Corneliu Dridu's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. Dr Lecter SC's Celso Trevisan played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Zorita in the 20th minute of play. In the 21st minute the ball was on its way in behind Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Ecuador's defense didn't have a chance, in the 21st minute, when Corneliu Dridu scored to the left of an out of position Julio Vera, making the score, 2-0. Julio Vera made an important save on a dangerous shot by Corneliu Dridu in the 24th minute. Julio Vera didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Corneliu Dridu went, in the 24th minute, to the upper right corner, 3-0 was the resulting score. In the 33rd minute Lauro Antunes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristian Sancho in the 37th minute of play forced Dr Lecter SC's goalkeeper Celso Trevisan to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ecuador's Felix Montenegro was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Celso Trevisan in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. When the match clock showed 39 minutes, the score became 3-1 when Felix Montenegro sped through Dr Lecter SC's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Celso Trevisan. After a rather tough play, Dr Lecter SC's Corneliu Dridu got a free kick in the 40th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Dr Lecter SC's zone, Daniel Zorita stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Celso Trevisan came out of the goal and Daniel Zorita tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 47th minute of the match Dr Lecter SC got a corner. Ecuador's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Mauro Romero ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner led Dr Lecter SC's Mauro Romero to fire away a dangerous shot which Julio Vera despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 3-1.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Corneliu Dridu made a kick off. Dr Lecter SC's Celso Trevisan proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 53rd minute of the match, managed to save Dr Lecter SC from getting a goal against them. If Daniel Zorita had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Corneliu Dridu in the 63rd minute of play. Cristian Sancho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 65th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Celso Trevisan having to interfere. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Corneliu Dridu in the 66th minute of the match. In the 68th minute, Lauro Antunes got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The supporters of Dr Lecter SC booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 72 match minutes in a wonderful position. Primitivo Andino didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Primitivo Andino got a free kick in the 75th minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Juan Sebastián Puig during the 84th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Dr Lecter SC made a substitution. Dieguinho de Medeiros replaced Válbson Batista. 83 minutes into the game, one of Ecuador:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Corneliu Dridu, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Celso Trevisan made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Agustín Saelices in the 89th minute of play. In the 89th minute, Agustín Saelices made a precise shot to the right of Celso Trevisan. Dr Lecter SC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 3-2.
