Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Roch Dejo in the 19th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Gigel Botescu prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Fragleses's Kim Hänninen played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Damazy Joks in the 20th minute of play. 23 minutes into the match, Damazy Joks had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Kim Hänninen. Fragleses's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Damazy Joks was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. Gigel Botescu stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Wiktor Gomolka's shot from short distance in the 26th minute. 28 minutes into the game, KS Olimpia Warszawa's Damazy Joks nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Kim Hänninen made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-3. Gigel Botescu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Wiktor Gomolka, who was totally free with the ball in the 34th minute. Lachezar Tetevenski sent away a hard shot on goal in the 35th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The Fragleses fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Kim Hänninen should have stopped the shot. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-4 lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Zlatko Ibrahimović to make the kick off.
