In the 10th minute Mevlüt Naşit shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gianluigi Donnarumma saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 14 minutes into the match, PERSPOLIS's goal looked a bit too open when Mevlüt Naşit came free, but Gianluigi Donnarumma reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Dawid Kochowskis short, quick shot in the 18thth minute got Gianluigi Donnarumma to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. 22 minutes into the match, PERSPOLIS's Bela Herrero sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Bill Carmichael narrowly saved just below the crossbar. The supporters of PERSPOLIS booed when Gasca Nebuna was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 24 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jeff Beck didn't get a good kick on the ball. Bela Herrero sent away a hard shot on goal in the 25th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Bill Carmichael showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cipriano Ganix in the 29th minute of the match. 30 minutes into the match, Gasca Nebuna's goal looked a bit too open when Ingmar Bergman came free, but Bill Carmichael reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Gasca Nebuna's Bill Carmichael played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cipriano Ganix in the 36th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sondang Prabowo in the 43rd minute of play forced PERSPOLIS's goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Dawid Kochowski to make the kick off. In the 56th minute PERSPOLIS were awarded a corner. Constantino Salgado went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner led to PERSPOLIS's Bela Herrero getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. Axel Uplegger hit a great freekick 59 minutes into the match. After having played for 61 minutes, Dawid Kochowski managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Gasca Nebuna's supporters crossed their fingers, but Dawid Kochowski was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Cipriano Ganix kicked well hit freekick during the 63rd minute of the match. Bill Carmichael made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Bela Herrero in the 68th minute of play. In the 70th minute of the match PERSPOLIS got a corner. Gasca Nebuna's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Constantino Salgado ran over to the corner to take the kick. After taking down the ball on PERSPOLIS's corner Constantino Salgado fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Bill Carmichael quite easily take care of the ball. Mihovil Štibić received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Bill Carmichael came out and tried to block the shot, but Mihovil Štibić slotted it home off the left post making it 1-1 in the 72nd minute. In the 74th minute, Mevlüt Naşit made a precise shot to the right of Gianluigi Donnarumma. PERSPOLIS's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-1. A collision led to Gasca Nebuna getting a freekick after 80 minutes play. Jeff Beck hit a great ball. In the 81st match minute, Gasca Nebuna was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jeff Beck to maneuver through the defense. After 82 played minutes, PERSPOLIS's Constantino Salgado shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Bill Carmichael came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in PERSPOLIS reached it. In the 83rd minute, Facundo Feria got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After 85 played minutes Gasca Nebuna got a freekick which was hit by Mevlüt Naşit. The final whistle blew with the score still tied, and both teams left the pitch thinking about the missed chances that could have given their team the win.
