An unexpectedly hard shot by Maximino Astudillo in the 18th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 25th match minute, FC Anderlecht Huachipato was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Maximino Astudillo to maneuver through the defense. Luis Andino sent away a hard shot on goal in the 27th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 29th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Serbülent Baysan took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Daniel Zorita, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 36 minutes into the match, FC Anderlecht Huachipato's goal looked a bit too open when Agustín Saelices came free, but Serbülent Baysan reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ecuador's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Daniel Zorita in the 37th minute. The corner led to Ecuador's Felix Montenegro getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Maximino Astudillo, who was totally free with the ball in the 43rd minute. 47 minutes into the game, Antonio Arias was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Ecuador's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave FC Anderlecht Huachipato the free kick. Antonio Arias kicked well hit freekick during the 47th minute of the match. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

After 51 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Cristian Sancho. In the 53rd minute, Luis Andino fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. After a defensive mix-up in Ecuador's zone, Victorino Peake stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Julio Vera came out of the goal and Victorino Peake tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Victorino Peake scored 1-0 in the 56th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Julio Vera, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. FC Anderlecht Huachipato's Eufemio Ehijo was substituted for Vitaliy Fedchenko. FC Anderlecht Huachipato's Felix Txilar was substituted for Maximino Astudillo. 65 minutes into the match, FC Anderlecht Huachipato's Victorino Peake sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Julio Vera narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Felix Txilar took the ball and in the 68 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Julio Vera. Julio Vera dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-0. The audience thought a goal was coming when Agustín Saelices got free with Serbülent Baysan in the 71st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Antonio Arias got a free kick in the 74th minute. Eufemio Ehijo took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 75th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Julio Vera. Ecuador's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Felix Txilar in the 80th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 84th minute, Agustín Saelices got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Camilo Gisbert got a free kick in the 86th minute. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 89th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Cristian Sancho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 93rd minute. Serbülent Baysan tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 94 minutes into the game, Dennis-Sven Piater was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. FC Anderlecht Huachipato's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ecuador the free kick. Dennis-Sven Piater hit a great freekick 94 minutes into the match. After having played for 95 minutes, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Daniel Zorita was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The supporters of FC Anderlecht Huachipato booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 96 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cristian Sancho didn't get a good kick on the ball.
