When the match had gone on for 40 minutes, Joel Gaona put it in 0-2 from a short distance just to the right of Dida Taffarel. A throw-in in the 44th minute of the game was made by Macos Graciani with Joel Gaona as target, who quickly passed the ball forward. Alfredo Martins who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 48thth minute tested the skills of Dante Lacasa when he managed to save the team from getting behind. When the match had gone on for 48 minutes, Alfredo Martins put it in 1-2 from a short distance just to the right of Dante Lacasa. Disappointed in the 1-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Macos Graciani made in the 56th minute of the game a quick throw-in and Luca Zorita immediately put the ball in play. Alfredo Martins sent away a hard shot on goal in the 63rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The throw-in from Macos Graciani in the 70th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Marquês de Herval's José Maria Ramalho. The supporters of Mexico booed when Marquês de Herval was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 70 match minutes in a wonderful position. José Maria Ramalho didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Lautaro Mancebo got free with Dida Taffarel in the 72nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Dida Taffarel prevented the ball from getting in the gole. An unexpectedly hard shot by Joel Gaona in the 95th minute of play forced Marquês de Herval's goalkeeper Dida Taffarel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 97th minute, Alberto Tafalla managed to get in a good position for a shot. Mexico's supporters rose to their feet, but Alberto Tafalla was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Dida Taffarel breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Mexico played a much better game than Marquês de Herval and deserved their victory. The Marquês de Herval players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
