After 18 played minutes Szombathely Squirrels got a freekick which was hit by Mihály Csontos. In the 20th minute of the match AFK Petržalka got a corner. Szombathely Squirrels's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Roland Záhoran ran over to the corner to take the kick. Roland Záhoran made a great header on AFK Petržalka's corner, it was just that Szombathely Squirrels's Róbert Kormos managed to reach the ball for a save. When Gusztáv Győrffy came up free with the goalie in the 32nd minute, the Szombathely Squirrels fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Gusztáv Győrffy couldn't finish the play. Róbert Kormos was out of position in the 33 minute of play, and Tibor Barmoš capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Tibor Barmoš really showed his touch with that goal: 1-0. Róbert Kormos showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Roland Záhoran in the 42nd minute of the match. 43 minutes into the game, Roland Záhoran was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. AFK Petržalka's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Szombathely Squirrels the free kick. After a defensive mix-up in AFK Petržalka's zone, Mihály Földesi stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Norberd Valentík came out of the goal and Mihály Földesi tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Tibor Barmoš stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 58th minute, Mihály Földesi got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In a very dangerous position, a player in Szombathely Squirrels fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 60th minute. Penalty! Juraj Poliovka charged in rather forcefully in the 69th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Juraj Poliovka the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. 71 minutes into the game, AFK Petržalka's Roland Záhoran nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Róbert Kormos made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-0. When Tibor Barmoš fell near the penalty area in the 80th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored AFK Petržalka's protests and gave Tibor Barmoš a yellow card for diving instead. 83 minutes into the match, AFK Petržalka's Roland Záhoran sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Róbert Kormos narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Róbert Kormos made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tibor Barmoš in the 85th minute of play. Zsolt Vörös might have been able to make a better finish in the 87th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Norberd Valentík. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Zsolt Vörös ran back to his position shaking his head. Szombathely Squirrels's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
