Sébastien Milliot kicked well hit freekick during the 8th minute of the match. Danny Pasquier took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Patricio Costa, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 10th minute, Patricio Costa ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Danny Pasquier was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. With his leg Jonathan Ferrant managed to avoid a goal in the 14thth minute, when Avel Vat's Youri Djorkaeff fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. In the 15th minute the ball was on its way in behind Avel Vat's goalkeeper Danny Pasquier, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The supporters of Avel Vat booed when Venezuela was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 17 match minutes in a wonderful position. Camilo Gaos didn't get a good kick on the ball. 18 minutes into the match, Youri Djorkaeff dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Jonathan Ferrant, 1-1. 25 minutes into the match, Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Youri Djorkaeff. In the 29th minute Youri Djorkaeff shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jonathan Ferrant saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Tomas Illescas came up free with the goalie in the 40th minute, the Venezuela fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tomas Illescas couldn't finish the play. With his leg Jonathan Ferrant managed to avoid a goal in the 42ndth minute, when Avel Vat's Youri Djorkaeff fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Tomas Illescas fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 46th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Danny Pasquier having to interfere. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Bilal Moutte during the 54th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 54 played minutes Avel Vat got a freekick which was hit by Bilal Moutte. In the 60th minute, Jose Correa hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 64th minute Youri Djorkaeff shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jonathan Ferrant saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 67 played minutes Venezuela got a freekick which was hit by Tomas Illescas. Thanks to some nice moves Tomas Illescas could shoot a difficult shot in the 71st minute, which Danny Pasquier however easily saved by the left post. If Lilian Thuram had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to Venezuela getting a freekick after 81 minutes play. Tomas Illescas hit a great ball. After having played for 82 minutes, Youri Djorkaeff managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Avel Vat's supporters crossed their fingers, but Youri Djorkaeff was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 83 played minutes Venezuela got a freekick which was hit by Patricio Costa. When Guillaume Minier came up free with the goalie in the 87th minute, the Avel Vat fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Guillaume Minier couldn't finish the play. When the match clock showed 89 minutes, the score became 2-1 when Youri Djorkaeff sped through Venezuela's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Jonathan Ferrant. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Avel Vat fans cheered their team off the field, for while Venezuela had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
