Leandro Soares blasted a shot towards the goal in the 8th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Nestor Cortez having to make a save. Nestor Cortez made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Leandro Soares in the 8th minute of play. The supporters of Lobos de Carelia booed when Fc Benefica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 9 match minutes in a wonderful position. David Wilmink didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Leandro Soares in the 12th minute of play forced Lobos de Carelia's goalkeeper Nestor Cortez to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 14 minutes of play, Fc Benefica's Leandro Soares made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Nestor Cortez was left in no man's land by his defense there! 19 minutes into the match, Fc Benefica's goal looked a bit too open when Pavao Zadro came free, but Mitchel Dijkstra reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Nestor Cortez made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Leandro Soares in the 24th minute of play. In the 26th minute, David Wilmink hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After some careless play in the Lobos de Carelia defense, Leandro Soares kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Nestor Cortez. The Lobos de Carelia fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Nestor Cortez should have stopped the shot. Nestor Cortez made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Leandro Soares in the 33rd minute of play. When Leandro Soares came up free with the goalie in the 34th minute, the Fc Benefica fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Leandro Soares couldn't finish the play. Jens van Basten sent away a hard shot on goal in the 39th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Jens van Basten recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 41st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Fc Benefica were awarded a corner in the 44th minute after Lobos de Carelia's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Leandro Soares took the corner. The corner went over the outstretched arms of Lobos de Carelia's goalie and right to Kurt-Jürgen Kurri. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Lobos de Carelia's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. In the 46th minute the ball was on its way in behind Lobos de Carelia's goalkeeper Nestor Cortez, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After 47 played minutes Lobos de Carelia got a freekick which was hit by Pavao Zadro.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Pavao Zadro made a kick off. When Pavao Zadro fell near the penalty area in the 51st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Lobos de Carelia's protests and gave Pavao Zadro a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Lobos de Carelia getting a freekick after 51 minutes play. Pavao Zadro hit a great ball. Jens van Basten hit a great freekick 54 minutes into the match. Nestor Cortez made an important save on a dangerous shot by Leandro Soares in the 58th minute. 59 minutes had been played when some careless play by Lobos de Carelia's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Leandro Soares was slow to take the kick. During this time Fc Benefica's players had a chance to rest. After taking down the ball on Fc Benefica's corner Leandro Soares fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Nestor Cortez quite easily take care of the ball. In a very dangerous position, a player in Lobos de Carelia fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 65th minute. Penalty! Nestor Cortez had in the 66thth minute some difficulties stopping Leandro Soares's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. Jens van Basten received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Nestor Cortez came out and tried to block the shot, but Jens van Basten slotted it home off the left post making it 0-5 in the 68th minute. Fc Benefica's Denis Beremundo was substituted for Humberto Jonge. In the 72nd minute, Leandro Soares ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Nestor Cortez was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-6. Fc Benefica's Mitchel Dijkstra played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Prospero Perico in the 77th minute of play. In the 79th minute Cristobal Lia shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mitchel Dijkstra saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Fc Benefica's Mitchel Dijkstra played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Prospero Perico in the 87th minute of play. In the 90th match minute, Lobos de Carelia was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Horacio Oliverios to maneuver through the defense. 93 minutes into the match, Cristobal Lia notched a goal, 1-7, to the right of Fc Benefica's Mitchel Dijkstra. Mitchel Dijkstra was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. When Horacio Oliverios fell near the penalty area in the 97th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Lobos de Carelia's protests and gave Horacio Oliverios a yellow card for diving instead. After 97 played minutes Lobos de Carelia got a freekick which was hit by Horacio Oliverios. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 98th minute of the game. One of Lobos de Carelia:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Fc Benefica:s goal. The goalkeeper, Nestor Cortez, was totally fooled by Fc Benefica's Leandro Soares, who 99 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. Fc Benefica's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
