The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Allan Damião the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Alvinegro Carioca protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Allan Damião had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. In a very dangerous position, a player in Alvinegro Carioca fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 11th minute. Penalty! The referee gave E.C. RIO DE JANEIRO a penalty, 13 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Nelsinho Hoffmann, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Alvinegro Carioca's Cássio Aguiar. 0-1. Luís Fábio Bittencourt made an important save on a dangerous shot by Rony Domingues in the 17th minute. E.C. RIO DE JANEIRO's Hamílton Cerezo quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Chico Vidal, made in the 21st minute of the game. The supporters of E.C. RIO DE JANEIRO booed when Alvinegro Carioca was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 23 match minutes in a wonderful position. Yan das Neves didn't get a good kick on the ball. Rafael Ramos hit a great freekick 25 minutes into the match. In the 29th minute Hamílton Cerezo collided with an opponent which caused him a fractured collar bone. When Tadeu Sarmento fell near the penalty area in the 29th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Alvinegro Carioca's protests and gave Tadeu Sarmento a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Alvinegro Carioca getting a freekick after 30 minutes play. Tadeu Sarmento hit a great ball. Rony Domingues received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 39th minute. Luís Fábio Bittencourt tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Tadeu Sarmento made in the 43rd minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by E.C. RIO DE JANEIRO's Aírton Prado. Aírton Prado's late challenge caught a Alvinegro Carioca's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Aírton Prado helped the player get up and apologised. Aírton Prado hit a great freekick 44 minutes into the match. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Hermínio Ferraz in the 47th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Luís Fábio Bittencourt prevented the ball from getting in the gole.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Rafael Ramos made a kick off. After a rather tough play, E.C. RIO DE JANEIRO's Rafael Ramos got a free kick in the 54th minute. Luís Fábio Bittencourt came out of the goal in the 56th minute to try and stop a shot by Alvinegro Carioca's Hermínio Ferraz. But to his dismay, Hermínio Ferraz quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-1. After having played for 59 minutes, Rony Domingues managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Alvinegro Carioca's supporters crossed their fingers, but Rony Domingues was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The supporters of E.C. RIO DE JANEIRO booed when Alvinegro Carioca was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 61 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tadeu Sarmento didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rony Domingues in the 65th minute of play forced E.C. RIO DE JANEIRO's goalkeeper Luís Fábio Bittencourt to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Rony Domingues fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 71st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Luís Fábio Bittencourt having to interfere. After 72 minutes, Hermínio Ferraz made it 3-1 with a short kick to the right side. E.C. RIO DE JANEIRO's Luís Fábio Bittencourt tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. 76 minutes into the match, E.C. RIO DE JANEIRO's goal looked a bit too open when Hermínio Ferraz came free, but Luís Fábio Bittencourt reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Rafael Ramos during the 78th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Rafael Ramos hit a great freekick 78 minutes into the match. Luís Fábio Bittencourt showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Hermínio Ferraz in the 89th minute of the match. After 91 played minutes, Alvinegro Carioca's Douglas Abraão shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Luís Fábio Bittencourt came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Alvinegro Carioca reached it. A collision led to Alvinegro Carioca getting a freekick after 92 minutes play. Hermínio Ferraz hit a great ball. In the 95th match minute, E.C. RIO DE JANEIRO was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rafael Ramos to maneuver through the defense. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Alvinegro Carioca fans cheered their team off the field, for while E.C. RIO DE JANEIRO had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
