Sotiris Koupepes's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Dante Lacasa read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 3rd minute of play. J.P. J.J.'s late challenge caught a Mexico's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. J.P. J.J. helped the player get up and apologised. Mexico made a substitution. Bautista Elvira replaced Joel Gaona. J.P. J.J. kicked well hit freekick during the 6th minute of the match. Lautaro Mancebo's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Thomas Runeberg read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 7th minute of play. Dante Lacasa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Librado Pamperin, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Wolverhampton's Per-Oskar Ahlstedt managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Leonardo Leoz in the 16 minute of the game. Thomas Runeberg showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Lautaro Mancebo, who was totally free with the ball in the 20th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bautista Elvira in the 35th minute of play forced Wolverhampton's goalkeeper Thomas Runeberg to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Alberto Tafalla received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 38th minute. Thomas Runeberg tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Wolverhampton's Thomas Runeberg played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luca Zorita in the 40th minute of play. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Sotiris Koupepes stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. A collision led to Wolverhampton getting a freekick after 51 minutes play. Per-Oskar Ahlstedt hit a great ball. If Alberto Tafalla had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 52nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Lautaro Mancebo could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 57th minute of the match, but Thomas Runeberg made a huge save. With a little luck, Wolverhampton's Thomas Runeberg got control of the ball when Facundo Cadaval tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 61st minute, Mexico's Bautista Elvira ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Thomas Runeberg. Thomas Runeberg yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 0-1. Mexico's Dante Lacasa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sotiris Koupepes in the 67th minute of play. Thanks to some nice moves Lautaro Mancebo could shoot a difficult shot in the 68th minute, which Thomas Runeberg however easily saved by the left post. Wolverhampton's Sotiris Koupepes got a good chance for a goal in the 76th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Guillermo Granäng hit a great freekick 80 minutes into the match. In the 95thth minute of the game Sotiris Koupepes who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Mexico's Dante Lacasa was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Mexico played a much better game than Wolverhampton and deserved their victory. The Wolverhampton players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
