Lautaro Mancebo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 15th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Dante Lacasa made an important save on a dangerous shot by Edgar Albohm in the 16th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Woopbongo's zone, Luca Zorita stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Valter Wallgren came out of the goal and Luca Zorita tried to chip the ball over his head. After having played for 47 minutes, Facundo Cadaval managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Mexico's supporters crossed their fingers, but Facundo Cadaval was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After the first half Mexico were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

In the 51st minute, Lautaro Mancebo left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Mexico fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-3. Dante Lacasa showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Edgar Albohm in the 61st minute of the match. In the 61st minute Edgar Albohm shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dante Lacasa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
