Ecuador's Daniel Zorita started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 6th minute, Felix Montes hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ecuador's Cristian Sancho got a good chance for a goal in the 13th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Régis de Queirós took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristian Sancho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Luis Andino kicked well hit freekick during the 18th minute of the match. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luke Clist in the 18th minute of play. In the 21st minute Leonardo Donato shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ecuador's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Daniel Zorita in the 32nd minute. Daniel Zorita made a great header on Ecuador's corner, it was just that Palmeiras's Régis de Queirós managed to reach the ball for a save. The audience was convinced that Cristian Sancho's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Régis de Queirós was relentless in the 32nd minute of the game. Daniel Zorita's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Régis de Queirós read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 35th minute of play. In the 45th minute, Luke Clist left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Palmeiras fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Luke Clist stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Dênis Miranda hit a great freekick 51 minutes into the match. In the 52nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Palmeiras's goalkeeper Régis de Queirós, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Régis de Queirós showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Sancho in the 59th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luis Andino in the 63rd minute of play forced Palmeiras's goalkeeper Régis de Queirós to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luke Clist in the 66th minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 71st minute, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ecuador's supporters rose to their feet, but Daniel Zorita was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Régis de Queirós breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Palmeiras's Ghenadie Furdui was substituted for Roderick Oosterhof. In the 77th minute Luke Clist shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 82 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Felix Montes. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luke Clist in the 83rd minute of play. In the 89th minute the ball was on its way in behind Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Palmeiras's Luke Clist got a good chance for a goal in the 93rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 95th minute, Leonardo Donato hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Ecuador players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
