The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 21st minute Leonardo Donato shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ecuador's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Daniel Zorita in the 32nd minute. Daniel Zorita made a great header on Ecuador's corner, it was just that Palmeiras's Régis de Queirós managed to reach the ball for a save. Régis de Queirós showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Sancho in the 59th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luis Andino in the 63rd minute of play forced Palmeiras's goalkeeper Régis de Queirós to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luke Clist in the 66th minute of the match. Palmeiras's Luke Clist got a good chance for a goal in the 93rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 95th minute, Leonardo Donato hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Ecuador players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
