Honduras's Lautaro Navarro proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 9th minute of the match, managed to save Honduras from getting a goal against them. Lautaro Navarro showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Filomeno Montrell, who was totally free with the ball in the 11th minute. An unexpected shot in the 26th minute by Filomeno Montrell got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. 28 minutes into the match, Velez Sarsfield's goal looked a bit too open when Edmundo Espiga came free, but Erwin Huygens reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Ago Tramp had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Honduras's Lautaro Navarro played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Nereo Artaldo in the 31st minute of play. A collision led to Velez Sarsfield getting a freekick after 32 minutes play. Gaston Ávila hit a great ball. The audience was convinced that Nereo Artaldo's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Lautaro Navarro was relentless in the 34th minute of the game. After 41 minutes, Filomeno Montrell mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Velez Sarsfield and the Honduras players grew even worse after the yellow card. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Nereo Artaldo made a kick off. Sebastian Villa's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Erwin Huygens firmly grabbed it by the left post. 55 minutes into the match, Nereo Artaldo notched a goal, 2-1, to the right of Honduras's Lautaro Navarro. Lautaro Navarro was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Nereo Artaldo took the ball and in the 63 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Lautaro Navarro. Lautaro Navarro dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 4-1. When the match clock showed 67 minutes, the score became 5-1 when Nereo Artaldo sped through Honduras's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Lautaro Navarro. Velez Sarsfield made a substitution. Ignacio Berenguer replaced Ago Tramp. Velez Sarsfield's Augusto Cordario was substituted for Nereo Artaldo. After some careless play in the Honduras defense, Augusto Cordario kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Lautaro Navarro. The Honduras fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Lautaro Navarro should have stopped the shot. Ignacio Berenguer charged in rather forcefully in the 76th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Ignacio Berenguer the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, Velez Sarsfield's Ignacio Berenguer got a free kick in the 76th minute. Velez Sarsfield's Yiyo Bernal was substituted for Marcos Pacifico. After 77 played minutes Velez Sarsfield got a freekick which was hit by Ignacio Berenguer. Velez Sarsfield's Javier Pinola managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Ivan Navarro in the 80 minute of the game. In the 81st minute, Augusto Cordario left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Velez Sarsfield fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 7-1. Sebastian Villa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 87th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 89th minute, Gaston Ávila hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 94th minute the ball was on its way in behind Honduras's goalkeeper Lautaro Navarro, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 96 minutes into the match, Honduras's goal looked a bit too open when Augusto Cordario came free, but Lautaro Navarro reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Velez Sarsfield fans cheered their team off the field, for while Honduras had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
