The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Wellington Montenegro tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Wellington Montenegro took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Daniel Zorita, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Célio Mangueira in the 27th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Julio Vera prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Ecuador's Cristian Sancho got a good chance for a goal in the 38th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristian Sancho in the 45th minute of play forced Joinville Esporte Clube's goalkeeper Wellington Montenegro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

Geovanni Leite hit a great freekick 60 minutes into the match. After a rather tough play, Joinville Esporte Clube's Fausto Aguiar got a free kick in the 66th minute. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Deivid Vaz in the 70th minute a chance for a shot on goal. Daniel Zorita could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 71st minute of the match, but Wellington Montenegro made a huge save. In the 73rd minute, Cristian Sancho fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Wellington Montenegro, passed just outside the right post. Ecuador's Daniel Zorita got a good chance for a goal in the 75th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Agustín Saelices received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Wellington Montenegro came out and tried to block the shot, but Agustín Saelices slotted it home off the left post making it 1-2 in the 82nd minute. 85 minutes into the match, Felix Montenegro had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Wellington Montenegro. Joinville Esporte Clube's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Felix Montenegro was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-3. Wellington Montenegro made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 91st minute of play.
