Mas que Vencedores 1988's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Tomas Berganza was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Tomas Berganza struck a weak shot in the 15th minute. Eneko Alvarez didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Panama. Marcos Cotilla was out of position in the 17 minute of play, and Nestor Placiencia capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Nestor Placiencia really showed his touch with that goal: 1-1. In the 22nd match minute, Mas que Vencedores 1988 was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Johan Lång to maneuver through the defense. The supporters of Panama booed when Mas que Vencedores 1988 was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 42 match minutes in a wonderful position. Severino Campelo didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tomas Berganza in the 45th minute of play forced Mas que Vencedores 1988's goalkeeper Eneko Alvarez to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Eneko Alvarez showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tomas Berganza, who was totally free with the ball in the 46th minute. Marcos Cotilla was left in no man's land by his defense there! The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-1 at half-time.

A collision led to Mas que Vencedores 1988 getting a freekick after 79 minutes play. Rajmond Visch hit a great ball. Isidoro Sarmiento sent away a hard shot on goal in the 80th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. After some careless play in the Panama defense, Johan Lång kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Marcos Cotilla. The Panama fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Marcos Cotilla should have stopped the shot. Tomas Berganza recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 97th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The Mas que Vencedores 1988 support was delighted with a win in a match that could easily have ended differently.
