The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After having played for 8 minutes, Gualterio Faron managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Antonio Vespucio Liberti's supporters crossed their fingers, but Gualterio Faron was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Julio Vera had in the 15thth minute some difficulties stopping Epifanio Demesio's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. In the 17th minute the ball was on its way in behind Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Sander Korsma's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Julio Vera read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 22nd minute of play. Antonio Vespucio Liberti's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Epifanio Demesio in the 26th minute. Antonio Vespucio Liberti's Sebastian Lope was substituted for Delmiro Jaunti. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Daniel Zorita to make the kick off. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Gualterio Faron in the 54th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Julio Vera saved Ecuador from getting behind. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sander Korsma in the 56th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Elpidio Txomin made a fantastic save in the 57th minute, when Daniel Zorita sent off a good shot on target. 64 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Epifanio Demesio came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Cristian Sancho in the 69thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Elpidio Txomin, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. 70 minutes into the game, Daniel Zorita was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Ecuador's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Antonio Vespucio Liberti the free kick. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Sebastian Lope during the 97th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card.
