Spectators: 40 (Terracing: 31, Seating: 9, VIP seats: 0) Daniel Zorita started the match with the kick off in front of an excited audience. Guto Taffarel showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Sancho in the 3rd minute of the match. In the 13th minute the ball was on its way in behind LUIZ PANATO's goalkeeper Guto Taffarel, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Ecuador's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Daniel Zorita in the 15th minute. A nice corner shot did that Daniel Zorita got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Guto Taffarel quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Zhao Yue Cheng in the 19th minute of the match. Guto Taffarel took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Daniel Zorita, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Zhao Yue Cheng received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 23rd minute. Julio Vera tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Cristian Sancho blasted a shot towards the goal in the 28th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Guto Taffarel having to make a save. After 31 played minutes LUIZ PANATO got a freekick which was hit by Pedro Luiz Paiva. LUIZ PANATO's Guto Taffarel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Agustín Saelices in the 35th minute of play. Guto Taffarel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Luis Andino, who was totally free with the ball in the 38th minute. In the 39th minute, Fellipe Cardozo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Zhao Yue Cheng in the 41st minute of play. Guto Taffarel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Daniel Zorita, who was totally free with the ball in the 45th minute. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Zhao Yue Cheng to make the kick off. A collision led to LUIZ PANATO getting a freekick after 50 minutes play. Arlindo de Salles hit a great ball. In the 51st match minute, LUIZ PANATO was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Pedro Luiz Paiva to maneuver through the defense. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 54th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 58 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Aki Guardo came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Zhao Yue Cheng in the 61st minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After having played for 62 minutes, Cristian Sancho managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cristian Sancho was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Aki Guardo in the 69th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Julio Vera saved Ecuador from getting behind. If Aki Guardo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 84th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 87th minute Agustín Saelices shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Guto Taffarel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. A collision led to LUIZ PANATO getting a freekick after 90 minutes play. Zhao Yue Cheng hit a great ball. When LUIZ PANATO's Zhao Yue Cheng in the 92nd minute got a chance for a shot 92nd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Ecuador's goalie prevented a goal. LUIZ PANATO were awarded a corner in the 94th minute after Ecuador's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Gualter Camargo took the corner. LUIZ PANATO's Gualter Camargo was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Julio Vera in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Ecuador were unable to convert their possession into goals, allowing LUIZ PANATO to leave the ground with a draw.
