With his leg Jonathan Ferrant managed to avoid a goal in the 17thth minute, when C Ａ R D I N Ａ L's Sorin Chihaia fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Tomas Illescas received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 22nd minute. Edgar Gurlui tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Patricio Costa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 25th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Jonathan Ferrant showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sorin Chihaia, who was totally free with the ball in the 72nd minute. Edgar Gurlui was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Tomas Illescas showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 3-2 in the 73 minute of play. Eugen Popeneciu charged in rather forcefully in the 76th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Eugen Popeneciu the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. If Tomas Illescas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Venezuela's Tomas Illescas was standing unmarked in front of the goal when he, in the 80th play minute, got the ball and easily drilled it into the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sorin Chihaia in the 96th minute of play forced Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Venezuela were clearly unhappy with the draw, as they felt they had done enough to earn themselves a victory.
