The audience was convinced that Karsten Illgner's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Kıvanç Sorgun was relentless in the 10th minute of the game. Alois Fontagnier's late challenge caught a FCFiratRom's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. In the 20th minute of the match, Er Can tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Radenko Mayer saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. After a rather tough play, FCFiratRom's Ahmet Turan Çile got a free kick in the 21st minute. In the 25th minute, Er Can ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Radenko Mayer was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. Aşık Kutsel charged in rather forcefully in the 28th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Aşık Kutsel the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Radenko Mayer made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ali Nejat Maruf in the 30th minute of play. 32 minutes into the match, FCFiratRom's goal looked a bit too open when Manfred Andrau came free, but Kıvanç Sorgun reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 34th minute, Er Can left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The FCFiratRom fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-0. Er Can recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 42nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-0 at half-time.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Ali Nejat Maruf made a kick off. Gerlach Rogatty was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 51 minutes into the match. In the 51st minute, Gerlach Rogatty hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 55 minutes into the match, KFC Uerdingen 05's goal looked a bit too open when Er Can came free, but Radenko Mayer reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Mehmet Emre Olcay fell near the penalty area in the 56th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored FCFiratRom's protests and gave Mehmet Emre Olcay a yellow card for diving instead. Mehmet Emre Olcay hit a great freekick 56 minutes into the match. KFC Uerdingen 05's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. 73 minutes into the game, FCFiratRom's Rama Zanetti nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Radenko Mayer made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-0. Joseph Hussen received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 79th minute. Kıvanç Sorgun tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Radenko Mayer showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rama Zanetti, who was totally free with the ball in the 82nd minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Rama Zanetti in the 84th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Radenko Mayer saved KFC Uerdingen 05 from getting behind. Ahmet Turan Çile hit a great freekick 85 minutes into the match. After 85 played minutes, KFC Uerdingen 05's Gregor Reinauer shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Kıvanç Sorgun came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in KFC Uerdingen 05 reached it. If Karsten Illgner had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. KFC Uerdingen 05's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
