Joseph Hussens short, quick shot in the 29thth minute got Ramiro Lowery to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Karsten Illgner kicked well hit freekick during the 30th minute of the match. Karsten Illgner scored 1-0 in the 34th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Ramiro Lowery, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 37th minute, Pierre Chappelle got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. A hard shot by Nicolas Anelka from long distance, 42 minutes into the match, got Ramiro Lowery's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Val Farrell made a kick off. After having played for 51 minutes, Joseph Hussen managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. KFC Uerdingen 05's supporters crossed their fingers, but Joseph Hussen was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The supporters of S.D. Bajen booed when KFC Uerdingen 05 was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 61 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nicolas Anelka didn't get a good kick on the ball. S.D.
