Lisandro Nuñez's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Qian Xing Wei read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 6th minute of play. In the 21st minute, Åke Ekelund left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Eleven Nation Army fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. In the 26th minute Léon Valin shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Qian Xing Wei saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When the match had gone on for 38 minutes, Lisandro Nuñez took a quick shot and it went in 1-1 without a chance for Qian Xing Wei to make any attempt to save it. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Helge Brun was the one to do the kick off. Lisandro Nuñez recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 51st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Ciriaco Cordarrell fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 85th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Qian Xing Wei having to interfere.
