VB-Team's Álvaro Rezende was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but August Hoffmanns in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. After a defensive mix-up in Rot-Weiss-Essen's zone, Joaquim de Barros stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. August Hoffmanns came out of the goal and Joaquim de Barros tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 42nd minute Luís Caeiro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but August Hoffmanns saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Joaquim de Barros made a kick off. Joaquim de Barros in the 51stth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of August Hoffmanns, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Armindo Salgado made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mesut Özil in the 53rd minute of play. Felix Balzer was in a good position and managed to take a shot, but he missed just to the outside of the post. With a left leg August Hoffmanns saved Rot-Weiss-Essen from getting behind. Luís Caeiro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 78th minute. August Hoffmanns tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 79th minute, Rot-Weiss-Essen's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Traian Hăvârneanu fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post.
