During the 44th minute of the match Afonso Sampaio completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Afonso Sampaio a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. In the 46th minute Merlin Castro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jorginho Vaz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After the first half Khachatryan were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Khachatryan made a substitution. Hu Wei Shu replaced Jon Yost. The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Holger Zachrisson was the one to do the kick off. Jorginho Vaz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Merlin Castro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a defensive mix-up in Portuguesa's zone, Merlin Castro stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jorginho Vaz came out of the goal and Merlin Castro tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Jorginho Vaz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tigran Kirakosyan, who was totally free with the ball in the 63rd minute. Holger Zachrisson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 65th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Merlin Castro's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 67thth minute, Jorginho Vaz skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. The Portuguesa fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jorginho Vaz should have stopped the shot. Jorginho Vaz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Merlin Castro, who was totally free with the ball in the 91st minute. Merlin Castros short, quick shot in the 94thth minute got Jorginho Vaz to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Ervin Huber hit a great freekick 95 minutes into the match.
