The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The audience was convinced that Timoteo Columbo's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Luiz Fabiano de Lima was relentless in the 4th minute of the game. Primo Speranza took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Di Yuan Liang, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 12 minutes into the match, Pombal 2003 F.C.'s goal looked a bit too open when Jeremias Ezkerra came free, but Luiz Fabiano de Lima reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 13 minutes Pombal 2003 F.C.'s defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Jeremias Ezkerra who took care of the corner kick. The corner led Academia 1903's Jeremias Ezkerra to fire away a dangerous shot which Luiz Fabiano de Lima despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Luiz Fabiano de Lima came out of the goal in the 20th minute to try and stop a shot by Academia 1903's Timoteo Columbo. But to his dismay, Timoteo Columbo quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. The supporters of Academia 1903 booed when Pombal 2003 F.C. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 24 match minutes in a wonderful position. Betão Peixoto didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some careless play in the Pombal 2003 F.C. defense, Timoteo Columbo kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Luiz Fabiano de Lima. The Pombal 2003 F.C. fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Luiz Fabiano de Lima should have stopped the shot. Primo Speranza made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Di Yuan Liang in the 34th minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Sebastian Zieba got free with Primo Speranza in the 36th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. A collision led to Pombal 2003 F.C. getting a freekick after 38 minutes play. Luisito Bordat hit a great ball. The supporters of Pombal 2003 F.C. booed when Academia 1903 was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 46 match minutes in a wonderful position. Benjamin Myhr didn't get a good kick on the ball. Primo Speranza showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hermínio Moraes, who was totally free with the ball in the 46th minute. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Academia 1903 made a substitution. Harald Ek replaced Jeremias Ezkerra. Timoteo Columbo succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 0-3 in the 55th playminute. In the 62nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Pombal 2003 F.C.'s goalkeeper Luiz Fabiano de Lima, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 66 minutes into the match, Pombal 2003 F.C.'s goalkeeper Luiz Fabiano de Lima had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Timoteo Columbo. In the 67th match minute, Pombal 2003 F.C. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bob Craft to maneuver through the defense. Academia 1903 made a substitution. Leon Matthäus replaced Timoteo Columbo. After a rather tough play, Pombal 2003 F.C.'s Bob Craft got a free kick in the 69th minute. In the 71st minute of the match Academia 1903 got a corner. Pombal 2003 F.C.'s goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Harald Ek ran over to the corner to take the kick. In the 75th play minute Leon Matthäus came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Luiz Fabiano de Lima. 0-4. After 78 played minutes Pombal 2003 F.C. got a freekick which was hit by Bob Craft. After having played for 84 minutes, Leon Matthäus managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Academia 1903's supporters crossed their fingers, but Leon Matthäus was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Pombal 2003 F.C.'s Luiz Fabiano de Lima proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 93rd minute of the match, managed to save Pombal 2003 F.C. from getting a goal against them. Academia 1903's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
