The supporters of 淡泊明志&宁静致远 booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 17 match minutes in a wonderful position. Agustín Saelices didn't get a good kick on the ball. Through an outstanding action, after 18 minutes, Julio Vera successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gică Hagi in the 46th minute of the match. Cristian Sancho took the ball and in the 48 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised 董峰辉. 董峰辉 dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-2. After the first half Ecuador were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

When Juan Sebastián Puig fell near the penalty area in the 55th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Ecuador's protests and gave Juan Sebastián Puig a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 55 minutes play. Ecuador played a much better game than 淡泊明志&宁静致远 and deserved their victory. The 淡泊明志&宁静致远 players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
