Martin Cordeal took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lautaro Mancebo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Romulo Matia in the 24th minute of play forced Mexico's goalkeeper Dante Lacasa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of Mexico booed when C. S. D. Pueyrredón was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 31 match minutes in a wonderful position. Edgardo Montxo didn't get a good kick on the ball. Hector Saturnin kicked well hit freekick during the 33rd minute of the match. Mexico's Joel Gaona got a good chance for a goal in the 37th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 38th minute, Edgardo Montxo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 39th minute, Joel Gaona got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Martin Cordeal showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Lautaro Mancebo in the 40th minute of the match. The supporters of Mexico booed when C. S. D. Pueyrredón was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 45 match minutes in a wonderful position. Teobaldo Rosario didn't get a good kick on the ball.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Teobaldo Rosario to make the kick off. 52 minutes into the match, Mexico's goal looked a bit too open when Teobaldo Rosario came free, but Dante Lacasa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in C. S. D. Pueyrredón's zone, Alberto Tafalla stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Martin Cordeal came out of the goal and Alberto Tafalla tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 60th minute Romulo Matia shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dante Lacasa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Alberto Tafalla came up free with the goalie in the 64th minute, the Mexico fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Alberto Tafalla couldn't finish the play. After 67 played minutes Mexico got a freekick which was hit by Facundo Cadaval. C. S. D. Pueyrredón made a substitution. Roch Siekierka replaced Romulo Matia. In the 68th minute, Facundo Cadaval hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Joel Gaona fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 70th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Martin Cordeal having to interfere. Martin Cordeal made an important save on a dangerous shot by Lautaro Mancebo in the 73rd minute. The crowd rose to their feet as Lautaro Mancebo kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Martin Cordeal. That made the score 0-2 in the 73 minute of play. Godofredo Reno might have been able to make a better finish in the 82nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Dante Lacasa. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Godofredo Reno ran back to his position shaking his head. After some fancy dribbling in the 86th minute, Facundo Cadaval managed to get in a good position for a shot. Mexico's supporters rose to their feet, but Facundo Cadaval was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Martin Cordeal breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Halil İbrahim Yeltekin sent away a hard shot on goal in the 88th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 89 played minutes C. S. D. Pueyrredón got a freekick which was hit by Edgardo Montxo.
