After some fancy dribbling in the 24th minute, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ecuador's supporters rose to their feet, but Daniel Zorita was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Patric Isaksson breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Cristian Sancho recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 26th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Ecuador were awarded a corner in the 30th minute after Barrenta SC's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Daniel Zorita took the corner. After taking down the ball on Ecuador's corner Daniel Zorita fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Patric Isaksson quite easily take care of the ball. Fellipe Lago fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. In the 33rd minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Patric Isaksson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Barrenta SC's zone, Cristian Sancho stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Patric Isaksson came out of the goal and Cristian Sancho tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Barrenta SC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 39 match minutes in a wonderful position. Valdemar Cabral didn't get a good kick on the ball. Cristian Sancho kicked well hit freekick during the 40th minute of the match. Daniel Zorita might have been able to make a better finish in the 42nd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Patric Isaksson. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Daniel Zorita ran back to his position shaking his head. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

Julio Vera stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Agustín Tastzian's shot from short distance in the 52nd minute. Cristian Sancho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 59th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 63rd match minute, Barrenta SC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Fellipe Lago to maneuver through the defense. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Agustín Tastzian, who was totally free with the ball in the 65th minute. Antonio Arias kicked well hit freekick during the 68th minute of the match. With a little luck, Barrenta SC's Patric Isaksson got control of the ball when Felix Montenegro tried to sneak it across the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fellipe Lago in the 75th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Wellington de Godoi kicked well hit freekick during the 76th minute of the match. After having played for 78 minutes, Di Marinho managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Barrenta SC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Di Marinho was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Patric Isaksson made an important save on a dangerous shot by Daniel Zorita in the 82nd minute. In the 85thth minute of the game Agustín Tastzian who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Ecuador's Julio Vera was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The referee ignored Ecuador's protests and gave Antonio Arias a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Antonio Arias got a free kick in the 91st minute. Ecuador's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
