Spectators: 43 (Terracing: 33, Seating: 10, VIP seats: 0) Marcus Edström made the kick off and thus started the match. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Club Deportes Santa Cruz was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 3 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jacinto Gebhard didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 6th minute, Cristian Sancho ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Ilkka Markkula was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Cristian Sancho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 15th minute. Ilkka Markkula tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 20th minute, Club Deportes Santa Cruz's Marcus Edström ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Julio Vera. Julio Vera yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-1. In the 23rd minute, Cristian Sancho got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Ilkka Markkula showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 27th minute. Cristian Sancho struck a weak shot in the 30th minute. Ilkka Markkula didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. Luis Andino received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 31st minute. Ilkka Markkula tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 35th minute the ball was on its way in behind Club Deportes Santa Cruz's goalkeeper Ilkka Markkula, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Eusebiu Tunar could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 37th minute of the match, but Julio Vera made a huge save. After a defensive mix-up in Club Deportes Santa Cruz's zone, Daniel Zorita stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ilkka Markkula came out of the goal and Daniel Zorita tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 40th minute, Felix Montenegro managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ecuador's supporters rose to their feet, but Felix Montenegro was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ilkka Markkula breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Club Deportes Santa Cruz's Ilkka Markkula played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Zorita in the 42nd minute of play. Ecuador's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Daniel Zorita in the 44th minute. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Daniel Zorita was the one to do the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Yan Zhi Chuan in the 55th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Jacinto Gebhard fell near the penalty area in the 67th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Club Deportes Santa Cruz's protests and gave Jacinto Gebhard a yellow card for diving instead. Jacinto Gebhard kicked well hit freekick during the 68th minute of the match. Marcus Edström recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 70th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After having played for 72 minutes, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Daniel Zorita was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Ilkka Markkula made a fantastic save in the 77th minute, when Cristian Sancho sent off a good shot on target. A collision led to Club Deportes Santa Cruz getting a freekick after 81 minutes play. Gilberto Sandoval hit a great ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 88th minute, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ecuador's supporters rose to their feet, but Daniel Zorita was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ilkka Markkula breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Hüseyin Rahmi Toper kicked well hit freekick during the 90th minute of the match. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Marcus Edström, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Ecuador were clearly unhappy with the draw, as they felt they had done enough to earn themselves a victory.
