The supporters of Ecuador booed when National Team Cape-Verde was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 4 match minutes in a wonderful position. Anton Vibjörnsson didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ecuador's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Carlos Alberto Tevez was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. Pål Sefastsson showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Daniel Zorita in the 11th minute of the match. Carlos Alberto Tevez's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Julio Vera read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 13th minute of play. 15 minutes into the match, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Pål Sefastsson narrowly saved just below the crossbar. A collision led to National Team Cape-Verde getting a freekick after 17 minutes play. Anton Vibjörnsson hit a great ball. After 20 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Felix Montenegro. Pål Sefastsson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 25th minute of play. Carlos Alberto Tevez fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 27th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. In the 29th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pål Sefastsson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Daniel Zorita had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 33 minutes had been played when some careless play by National Team Cape-Verde's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Daniel Zorita was slow to take the kick. During this time Ecuador's players had a chance to rest. The corner ended in Luis Andino almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but National Team Cape-Verde's Pål Sefastsson did a great save. In the 40th minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pål Sefastsson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Cris Montoia kicked well hit freekick during the 47th minute of the match.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Carlos Alberto Tevez made a kick off. Antonio Arias hit a great freekick 55 minutes into the match. National Team Cape-Verde made a substitution. Rudolf Lundgren replaced Fredric Melander. After 56 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Antonio Arias. In the 57th minute, Bennvar Post left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The National Team Cape-Verde fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-1. 61 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Bennvar Post came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of National Team Cape-Verde booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 65 match minutes in a wonderful position. Primitivo Andino didn't get a good kick on the ball. Daniel Zorita blasted a shot towards the goal in the 67th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Pål Sefastsson having to make a save. In the 75th minute Leon Fasgar shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Primitivo Andino kicked well hit freekick during the 77th minute of the match. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Felix Montes got a free kick in the 81st minute. In the 86th minute, Cristian Sancho made a precise shot to the right of Pål Sefastsson. National Team Cape-Verde's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 3-2. 95 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Bennvar Post came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The home crowd let out a huge roar when the referee blew for the end of the game. National Team Cape-Verde were victorious despite being under pressure from Ecuador for much of the match.
